C9 PARAPACK COMPRESSION CUBE
I’ve spent years collecting military artifacts—objects built for very specific moments in history.
This one stood out.
A 1969 Vietnam-era aircrew survival parachute — issued to military pilots and crew. The ones who, if things went wrong, often didn’t make it home.
I have a deep respect for everyone involved in that conflict. Artifacts like this aren’t just materials—they carry real history.
During my time in Naval aviation, I trained with similar equipment during SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) school in the early 90s—training built on the hard lessons of Vietnam, preparing aircrew for capture and survival behind enemy lines. Gear like this wasn’t theoretical. It was tied to the reality of survival.
Last year, I carried this parachute back to Saigon. Returning it to the place it would have originally been issued—and in many cases, used—mattered. Not as a museum piece. As material. Working with local craftsmen, we disassembled the parachute and rebuilt it into a limited run of bags. Swords into plowshares.
